After a decade of grassroots organizing and advocacy, California regulators just released a plan to formally phase out fracking by prohibiting the state from issuing new fracking permits.

Fracking, the process of injecting water, sand, and chemicals underground at high pressure to allow oil and gas to flow to the surface, has long been known to accelerate climate change, pollute drinking water, cause earthquakes, and make people sick.

While the draft plan calls for an end to fracking, it doesn't address all well stimulation methods, specifically steam injection, which is widely used.

Take action before the comment period deadline on March 27: Tell Governor Newsom and California regulators to put a ban on ALL harmful fracking practices in California.

Dear Governor Newsom and CA Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM),

Message Body

Thank you for taking the vital, necessary action to ban (at least some) fracking in California. Given the urgency of addressing climate change and transitioning to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources, it's critical to make this move. Protecting people's health and the safety of our drinking water by ending fracking is also, quite simply, the right thing to do.

However, I urge you to consider and prioritize the need to ban ALL types of fracking, including steam injection. Allowing steam injection to continue only perpetuates the ongoing pollution and climate issues impacting our state.

In order for California to be truly considered a climate leader, CalGEM must work to stop ALL fracking practices AND begin to end all oil and gas drilling. We have a pivotal opportunity to end Big Oil’s grip on our energy sector and put ourselves on a true path for a future free from fossil fuels. We should take it.

With a full ban, we can protect our environment and public health, as well as fight climate change.

We know the only way to a clean, renewable energy future is to ban all fracking and to stop all new fossil fuel development. I urge you to do so.
