In its quest to get off coal, LA City leaders have signed a misguided contract to retool the coal-burning Intermountain Power Plant in Utah to burn gas that will generate LA's power.
The UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) has warned us that to avoid a catastrophic level of global warming, worldwide carbon emissions must peak in 2020, be halved by 2030, and eliminated by 2050 altogether. Meanwhile, Mayor Garcetti and utility officials are greenlighting agreements to rebuild dirty energy plants out-of-state for LA's power.
Earlier this year he acted to stop future investments to three coastal gas-fired power plants along our coast, and developed a timeline to close those plants altogether while LA develops clean energy alternatives.
Building this new gas infrastructure will hook us onto dirty energy for decades to come, at a time when we need to be boldly transitioning to a clean energy economy. We must call on Mayor Garcetti to do the same to the Intermountain Power Plant in Utah, while providing a pathway to clean energy and green jobs.
Fill out the petition form below to urge Mayor Garcetti to reject the Intermountain Power Plant contract and move us to a 100% real clean energy economy!
