I urge you to take immediate action to protect New Mexico’s precious water resources.

Industrial agriculture is harming our state. It contributes to climate change, causes water and air pollution, harms the welfare of animals, and pushes family farms out of business. Additionally, many New Mexicans are struggling with diminishing water supplies for their own household and personal use, while Big Ag is utilizing most of our water sources.

We can’t allow Big Ag to continue to abuse our water. Urgent action is needed to protect our state from the harms posed by these industrial facilities. As governor, you can call on the New Mexico Drought Task Force to update the existing drought plans to include mitigation actions specific to industrial agriculture and its excessive water abuses.

As a New Mexican, I know our state is unique and special. We have a deep sense of culture and want to protect our water for generations to come. We also know our water is far more important than industry profit. By taking action now, we can begin the long process necessary to protect New Mexico’s freshwater sources.

Please take immediate action on the megadrought by directing the New Mexico Drought Task Force to update the current drought plans to include mitigation measures to curb industrial agriculture's water abuses.
