In Arizona, water has always faced many threats: a changing climate, agricultural runoff, and bad policy by neighboring states. But now, one of the state's largest and most important water sources faces an even more immediate threat in the form of invasive oil & gas drilling.
The Coconino Aquifer lies upstream from over 40 million people. It is one of Arizona's most important and pristine water sources that is now threatened by the fossil fuel industry. Acid fracking is already underway near Petrified Forest National Park and new oil & gas leases are being signed every day. This past session, the state legislature failed to act on a bill that would have protected all Arizonans from the dangers of fracking.
Until next year, Governor Ducey is the one person in Arizona that can do something about this. Send him a message urging him to ban fracking in the Coconino Aquifer.
