Massachusetts: Stop Project Maple!

Fossil fuel company Enbridge wants to expand its fracked gas infrastructure along the AIM pipeline that runs through New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

This plan would include building out compressor stations and other dirty energy infrastructure — wreaking havoc on our air and climate.

While it's early days for the proposal right now, once an application with federal regulators moves forward, Enbridge may also need permits from at least one state agency.

Urge Governor Healey to publicly oppose the Maple Fracked Gas Expansion and do everything in her power to ensure that this dirty pipeline expansion does not move forward.

I urge you to prepare to hold Enbridge to strict compliance with our existing environmental regulations for any permits sought in order to expand their fossil fuel infrastructure along the Algonquin Gas Transmission Line that runs through Massachusetts.

I was encouraged by the state's recent DPU decision in 20-80 that found the Commonwealth’s future is one “beyond gas.” I urge your administration to think similarly when confronted with Enbridge’s fracked gas expansion plans dubbed “Project Maple”.

Enbridge’s proposed fracked gas expansion is an unacceptable burden on communities already grappling with the impacts of the Algonquin pipeline and its associated projects, including the West Roxbury Lateral, M&R Station, and Weymouth compressor station. Our Environmental Justice communities are already disproportionately burdened by the health and safety risks of gas infrastructure. It is imperative that we prevent any further expansion and ensure the well-being of all Massachusetts residents.

Moreover, Enbridge’s proposal will make us not able to meet the legally mandated goals of the 2050 Roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050. In order to meet those legally mandated goals, all new energy infrastructure permitted in Massachusetts must be clean, renewable, and equitably sited.

Enbridge's proposed Project Maple, an expansion of the Algonquin Gas Transmission pipeline, is a grave threat to our state's environment, economy, and public health.

I urge you to protect Massachusetts residents by unequivocally holding Enbrige in strict compliance with our existing environmental regulations.
