Join us for a community forum where we'll discuss the threats posed by the January 11, 2019 Marina del Rey gas well blowout.
At this interactive forum you will learn what’s happened with the Marina del Rey blowout and the Playa del Rey gas storage field, along with important information about how local first responders proceed with emergency and evacuation plans.
Find out what the scientists have to say. Are more blowouts due? Find out about publicly known gas leaks and lack of enforcement.
You can also hear what our elected officials are going to do about it and what actions we can take. City Councilmember Mike Bonin and representatives for Senator Ben Allen, Assemblymember Autumn Burke and Supervisor Janice Hahn will all be in attendance.
Background:
On January 11, 2019, a huge gas blowout on the corner of Via Marina and Tahiti Way in Marina Del Rey spewed liquids and 100,000 cubic feet of natural gas almost 100 feet into the air.
The blowout happened while an old underground gas well was being repaired on the construction site of a new Courtyard Marriott Hotel. Read more.
