Oregon's mega-dairies with manure digesters are profiting off of dirty factory farm gas while harming our communities. By participating in California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard program, factory farm digesters across the country are being paid to pollute!
Factory farm gas is no cleaner than fracked gas — it's a false climate solution. To create it, mega-dairies put manure into large digesters where bacteria break down waste and produce gas that is primarily composed of methane.
Threemile Canyon — a manure digester at Oregon’s largest mega-dairy — has threatened public health by spewing illegal amounts of dangerous fine particulate pollution into the environment, and was recently fined by Oregon's Department of Environmental Quality for repeatedly violating its air pollution permit over 2019 and 2020. But Threemile Canyon continues to profit off its pollution by selling biogas into California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard program.
Public money should support the public good, not pay private companies to pollute! California regulators can take enforcement actions against factory farms that violate environmental protection regulations.
Send a message to California officials below to tell them to stop funding the polluting Threemile Canyon mega-dairy in Oregon by revoking its Low Carbon Fuel Standard credits!
