The Towamencin Board of Supervisors are preparing to sell our sewer system. They have had the system assessed, given tours to prospective buyers, and are about to issue a request for bids.
Selling our sewer system will come with a heavy price. Privatization of our wastewater systems typically leads to skyrocketing rates, decreased quality of service, and loss of transparency and accountability. Private companies are responsible to their shareholders first, not the community, and will put their profits ahead of our needs.
These companies will offer millions of dollars for the sewer system - which the Board may use to cover debts. However, selling assets to cover budget shortfalls in the short-term leaves our community desperate in the future, and these private companies have the right to recoup the entire cost of the sale through rate increases!
