Last year, the people of Ventura County had a historic victory! We closed a loophole that has allowed oil companies to use permits given over 60 years ago to drill unlimited numbers of oil wells without environmental rewiew or expiration dates.
Now Big Oil has spent over $500,000 to pay out-of-county signature gatherers to undo it, spreading misleading information about what they were collecting signatures for and risking community health by bussing people in during our county's highest spike in COVID cases and deaths.
It's now up to the Board of Supervisors to either undo the new protections or send the issue to Ventura County voters to decide. They will be deciding soon whether to give Big Oil back its permit loophole that allowed oil companies to pollute without proper environmental review.
We're demanding that the Board of Supervisors:
-
Does NOT re-establish Big Oil's permit-to-pollute loophole
-
Puts the issue before Ventura County voters during the next most inclusive election
-
Investigates Big Oil's deceptive and dangerous tactics used during their signature gathering
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors needs to hear directly from you: Protect our communities from fossil fuel pollution, not Big Oil's profits!
Send a message now to demand the Ventura County Board of Supervisors investigates Big Oil's dangerous tactics and lets the people of Ventura County decide if Big Oil gets its permit-to-pollute back.
