New York banned fracking, but it's still accepting fracking waste from Pennsylvania at water treatment facilities and landfills, as well as using it as road de-icer. This waste is incredibly hazardous to people's health and the environment.
The good news? This year, New York can pass a bill that would classify fracking waste as hazardous, so that it can't be freely spread around our state and threaten our water quality.
The bill has already passed through the Senate; now it's up to our Assembly members and Governor Cuomo to close the hazardous waste loophole so that fracking waste is recognized for the dangers it presents.
Time is short, since the legislative session ends on June 19.
Take action today! Tell your Assembly member to sponsor A.2655 to classify waste from oil and gas as hazardous!
