Join us in telling our legislators that Ohio should not be used as a
dumping ground for toxic fracking waste. The legacy that we leave for
future generations is much too great of a sacrifice in exchange
for...well, nothing. We don't benefit at all by being a dumping ground. Only Big Oil and Gas benefits, and that's just not
okay.Fracking is a type of gas drilling that injects millions of gallons of hydraulic fluids - a mixture of dangerous chemicals, water and sand - into a well to create pressure that cracks open rock underground, releasing natural gas. This drilling process creates millions of gallons of toxic waste that is now being disposed of by injecting it into one of Ohio's 188 (and counting) active underground injection wells for oil and gas waste. No one knows exactly how toxic the waste is, but what we do know is alarming: carcinogens and radioactivity have been found in the fracking waste being injected beneath our feet.
Tell your Ohio state legislators: don't let our state be a dumping ground for fracking waste!
Feel free to edit the message below. We'll deliver your message directly to your elected officials.
Dear [Decision Maker],
While you were out over the summer, a new Senate Bill was introduced that would enact a ban on underground injection of toxic fracking waste, as would the House legislation introduced this past spring. I urge you to pledge your support for H.B. 148 or the recently introduced S.B. 178 to protect Ohio's drinking water by banning injection wells used for the toxic and potentially radioactive waste from fracking.
Sincerely,[Your Name] [Your Address] [City, State ZIP]
