Protect your water, air and food by signing the petition to ban fracking on Erie County-owned land!Hydraulic fracturing, or "fracking," injects millions of gallons of fracking fluid — a mixture of nearly 600 chemicals, plus water and sand — into a well to crack open rock underground and release natural gas. The process can deplete and contaminate local water, damage the environment, and threaten public health. As we continue to work toward a statewide ban, cities are stepping up to protect themselves at the municipal level. In 2011 Buffalo led the way as the first city in New York State to ban fracking locally. Soon Ulster and Albany Counties passed their own prohibitions on fracking, and now Erie County must join in by banning fracking on county-owned land, and banning fracking's chemical-laden wastewater.
Please sign the petition below. We'll deliver your signature and additional message directly to your elected officials.
