Legislation was just introduced (H.R. 1599) that would prohibit any state efforts to require labeling of
genetically engineered foods (GMOs). This is Monsanto's dream bill! The Grocery Manufacturers Association, an industry group that represents Monsanto, Nestlé, Dow and Pepsi, is pushing this bill because it would let them continue to keep quiet
about their production and use of GMO foods. We need to make sure Congress hears from their actual constituents, since they're already hearing from the industry lobbyists. It's our right to know what is in our food, and corporations should not keep us in the dark.Fill out the form below to send an email to your Representative. Personalize it to tell your legislators why this issue is important to you!
The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) represents more than 300 of the United States’ biggest food and beverage companies. GMA members also include some of the largest seed and biotechnology companies (like Monsanto, Dow AgroSciences and Syngenta). The GMA lobbies the federal and state governments to keep business costs low for its members by keeping regulations loose or even voluntary. The priorities of the GMA align with its member companies’ bottom lines, and not with the health and well-being of its consumers. The GMA fights to keep genetically engineered foods (GMOs) unlabeled, to oppose mandatory country-of-origin labeling and to block any limitations on marketing junk food to children.Monsanto's dream bill, formally known as H.R. 1599, is the brainchild of the GMA and would make the already inadequate approval process for GMO foods even worse. The bill would make voluntary labeling for GMO foods the national standard and strip away consumers’ right to know by blocking all state efforts to require labeling of GMO foods. That’s why many of our partners fighting for GMO labels refer to this bill as the “Denying Americans the Right to Know Act,” or DARK Act.
